It's Only Natural.

It's Only Natural.

Though we are staying close to the centre of London our first hotel here spoiled us and neither myself nor the Entourage are enjoying our current accommodation. The room is small, the food is ... ordinary and the plumbing leaves a bit to be desired. It is only a few more days. Sigh.

Since a large part of the motivation for this trip was for the junior members of staff to have the opportunity to see the museums of London, so today was the day we began to do that by heading out to the Natural History Museum. This will be our only venue today.

Arriving there just as the museum opened for the day we entered to find "Dippy", the diplodicus skeleton missing from his iconic post just inside the front doors. He is apparently on a UK tour to promote the Museum. Oh well. From there it was off to the Maze of Screaming Children, the Dinosaur Hall.

With the more senior members in their wake, the junior members of staff set a cracking pace to get to the hall but then fell victim to every interactive and information panel to be found, something that previously only Tony had been accused of.

From their we wound our way through the mammal hall and then past the reptiles before heading for the "Cocoon". This space from the outside looks like a giant insect cocoon. What looks small from the outside has some surprising TARDIS like properties and is actually 7 floors of collection storage, work spaces and public galleries. It was so good. There were not children, the displays were aimed at adults and was generally excellent that by the end Beth was thinking of becoming a leptopterist rather than a paelentologist.

After lunch it became clear that the junior members were flagging yet the older staff, made of sterner stuff, continued on until the majority of the museum viewed we made preperations to leave. However Sandra betrayed me. She left via the shop and obtained another predator, a wolf. I am not amused.

Maybe this new companion will have some uses.

  1. Hmm, bear vs. wolf. Sorry, cultured bear with soft 'gentry' hands vs. wolf.

"the Maze of Screaming Children" - to quote Kitty Flanagan, kids don't like cafés, I can tell by the noises they make.

    1. I am instructed by Harold to inform you that, so far, the wolf has been very well behaved, is very soft but not a conversationalist. His name is Grrr appparently.
